Create and Construct Crew (K-1st, Monday 2:30-3:30)

Create and Construct Crew (Mondays, K-1st Grade and Tuesdays, 2nd-5th Grade)

Do you like to imagine, design, build and engineer? Then the Create & Construct Crew is right for you! This immensely hands-on program allows for students to work with a wide variety of mediums including (but not limited to) an all-time favorite learning tool, LEGOS®! Students will work with kits/build books as well as have the opportunity to “free build” whatever their imaginations can conjure! Along the way, we will produce pictures and videos (including time lapse and stop motion!) of our creations using a variety of iPad apps. The sky’s the limit for all of the ways we turn our incredible ideas into real things!

Robotics Club (1st-3rd Grade)

This fun and interactive club exposes Mt. Bethel’s budding engineers to the foundations of robotics, including construction and basic programming. Students will use LEGO® WeDo 2.0 kits and curriculum to build, program and test a minimum of 2 different WeDo 2.o robots, including Milo the Science Rover! In addition to LEGO® curriculum, members will gain exposure to real world robotics, try out other cool robots (like BeeBots, LEGO Boost, Ozobots and Robot Mice) and partake in other hands-on design, construction and programming/coding activities.

***Note that students returning to robotics will continue moving forward with new builds and challenges based on previous experience.

BugBytes: Jr. Coding and Problem Solving (K-2nd, Thursdays 2:30-3:30)

Coding with young children opens their eyes to the world inside of computers, as well as the world around them. Software is the language of our modern world. While not every child will grow up to be a software engineer, it’s crucial they understand computational thinking as it combines math and logic and helps promote higher levels of problem solving. Programming is shown to be beneficial to cognitive development, working the language centers in the frontal cortex in unique and powerful ways. When we increase our computational thinking, our brains form new neural connections while strengthening existing ones.

Club Buccaneer’s latest FACT Club offering, BugBytes: Jr. Coding and Problem Solving, will provide your young child with opportunities to increase their computational thinking and ability to tackle mental challenges in new and creative ways. Each week, your child will develop computational thinking skills through both digital and analog methods, including:

Osmo Coding

Scratch Jr.

Tynker

LEGO Coding Express

Hour of Code

Kodable

Brain training exercises including fun logic games, puzzles, brain teasers and more!
